Code of Conduct

Introduction

Welcome to the Data Community Conference! Our event is dedicated to creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for everyone involved, including speakers, attendees, partners, media, and staff. This Code of Conduct outlines our expectations for participant behavior as well as the consequences for unacceptable behavior.

 

Expected Behavior

  • Respect the diversity of perspectives and experiences of others.
  • Be considerate in your communication and actions.
  • Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior and speech.
  • Be mindful of your surroundings and your fellow participants.

 

Unacceptable Behavior

Unacceptable behaviors include but are not limited to:

  • Intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory, or demeaning conduct.
  • Offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, disability.
  • Inappropriate use of nudity, sexual images, and/or sexually explicit language.
  • Unwelcome physical contact or unwelcome sexual attention.
  • Sustained disruption of talks or other events.

 

Consequences of Unacceptable Behavior

Unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated. Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in unacceptable behavior, the conference organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, up to and including expulsion from the conference without warning or refund.

 

Reporting an Incident

If you are subject to or witness unacceptable behavior, or have any other concerns, please notify a conference staff member as soon as possible. All reports are treated seriously and responded to promptly.

 

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies to all participants at the conference, including but not limited to speakers, attendees, partners, media, and staff, in all conference venues and conference-related social events.

 

We value your attendance and are dedicated to providing a positive event experience for everyone.

 

Sustainability

The Data Community Conference teams tries to minimize the impact of the event on the environment. For instance, we implemented the following measures:

  • Thoughtful Consumption: First and foremost, we consider the necessity and environmental impact before producing or purchasing anything.
  • Recycling and Reuse: We repurpose as many items as possible, such as lanyards, floor signage, and roll-ups from one year to another. We also try to replace only what needs to be replaced. For instance, we only change the design of our roll-ups, but keep the metallic structure.
  • Local Production: We prioritize finding local companies to print and produce materials.
  • Minimal Giveaways: We intentionally limit the number of promotional items (goodies) to reduce waste.
  • Sustainable Catering: We offer vegetarian meals only and locally sourced snacks.
  • Public Transportation Access: Our event locations are chosen to be close to public transportation, encouraging attendees to use eco-friendly travel options.
